Veterans, Take Notice:
If your New York State license or ID does not have a star or a flag on it, then you do not have a REAL ID-compliant document. A REAL ID is a federally compliant DMV-issued driver license, learner permit, or non-driver ID that will be required to board a domestic flight (within the U.S.) or enter certain federal buildings starting in May 2025, unless you have a valid passport.
Find out how by calling or going to your local DMV – These changes are FREE
While you are there, If you are a qualified U.S. military veteran who was honorably discharged, and you have a New York State driver license, learner permit or non-driver photo ID card, you can have the word “Veteran” printed on the upper left hand of your photo document.
There is no additional fee for the veteran status designation on your document, but all regular transaction fees will apply.
After you receive the veteran designation, it will automatically be on all of your future DMV documents (when you replace or renew).
